Micronutrient & Gut Testing for Sport & Health

Micronutrient Testing

We are proud to partner with multiple labs to provide in-depth testing for optimal nutritional status for health and performance. This includes micronutrient testing, gut testing and other functional labs that help us serve you better.

What are micronutrients?

Micronutrients play an important role in energy production, hemoglobin synthesis, maintenance of bone health, adequate immune function, and protection of the body against oxidative stress and cellular damage. Micronutrients include vitamins, minerals, co-factors, amino acids, metabolites, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. These nutrients are found in small amounts in foods and are essential for human health.

Which patients can benefit from micronutrient testing?

Individuals who have the following symptoms, diagnoses, or risk factors should consider testing their extra- and intracellular micronutrient status:

  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Intense athletic training
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Arthritis
  • Skin problems
  • Numbness or tingling in extremities
  • Weakened immune system
  • Digestive disorders with malabsorption (Celiac, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis)
  • SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)
  • Long-term use of prescription medication
  • A diet high in processed foods
  • Obesity
  • Vegan or vegetarian diet
  • Stubborn weight gain
  • Autoimmune disorders

Micronutrient testing for athletes

Because micronutrient status directly impacts performance and energy production, athletes benefit from regular monitoring of micronutrient status to optimize competitive advantage during training and events. Athletes should consider that micronutrients also play an important role in:

  • energy production
  • hemoglobin synthesis (for optimal oxygen levels)
  • maintenance of bone health
  • adequate immune function
  • protection of body against oxidative damage
  • recovery and muscle growth after strenuous training and injuries

Exercise stresses many of the metabolic pathways where micronutrients are required, and intense physical training may result in muscle biochemical
adaptations that increase micronutrient needs. Routine exercise may also increase the turnover and loss of these micronutrients from the body. As a result, greater intakes of micronutrients may be required to cover increased needs for building, repair, and maintenance of lean body mass in athletes.

Gut Testing

There are various gut testing options, including the popular Gut Zoomer, Wheat Zoomer, Organic Acids, and Food Sensitivities.

Which patients can benefit from gut testing?

Individuals who have the following symptoms, diagnoses, or risk factors should consider testing gut testing:

  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Celiac Disease
  • Skin rashes
  • Inflammatory Symptoms
  • Fatigue
  • Gas and bloating
  • Indigestion
  • Infections
  • Leaky Gut
  • GERD (reflux)
  • SIBO

What does Gut Zoomer 3.0 Include?

The Gut Zoomer provides all the commensal microbes (including lactobacillus and bifidobacterium), pathogenic microorganisms and inflammatory markers. Here’s what it includes.

Our Licensed & Registered Dietitians will work through the blueprint with you to prioritize what daily health and nutrition choices you can make to ensure a lifelong health based on your unique makeup.

This test can be added on to any of our nutrition programs. This is NOT a stand-alone test (that defeats the purpose!). The power of the results lies in a complete assessment and recommendations by your Dietitian.

Additional Lab Testing for Athletes

We also offer labs including CBC, CMP, ferritin, iron panel, B12, vitamin D, omega-3 testing and more. We’ll create the order for you, send you to a lab near you (if necessary) and we get the results to review in our consultations!

How much does lab testing cost?

Because the labs offer occasional specials and bundles, the prices varies, but are typically $350+. FSA, HSA and major credit cards are accepted. You may also choose to do a payment plan.

What are next steps?

  1. Book your free nutrition consult with our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists to see how we can use this test to design your personalized diet, training and lifestyle recommendations.
  2. We’ll create an order for whatever tests we deem to be a good fit for your needs. Your kit(s) will arrive at your home, and depending on the type of test, you’ll either conduct it at home or go to a lab near you.
  3. We get the results delivered to our dietitians (time frame varies based on the type of test), then we’ll schedule our follow up sessions to discuss the results for the best, personalized dietary and lifestyle choices for your health and wellness!
