Mountain Biker Learns to Swim! Allison’s Story
Our Mountain Biker
Meet Allison: mountain biker extraordinaire, top saleswoman in her field, and all around amazingly smart and awesome gal. In under 6 months, she went from barely being able to get across the pool, to finishing a half iron distance race in a torrential downpour. Her positive, yet calm energy is truly contagious and her commitment to connecting with other endurance athletes keeps our community strong! We can’t wait to see what she’ll accomplish next (other than having twins!).
What made you look for The Endurance Edge services? What were you trying to accomplish from the start?
I was challenged to complete a 70.3 triathlon and knew I’d need a coach. I didn’t know how to swim! I also needed moral support and weekly accountability check-ins which I knew The Endurance Edge could provide for me.
Did you hit any roadblocks during the process of working with us? If so, how did that change your approach, mindset or goals?
I had a few weeks where I fell off the wagon – I mean who doesn’t? Chris was able to help me pick back up and not worry about a few missteps. We dialed in my nutrition and added more swimming and running to my workouts.
What is the best part of your experience with The Endurance Edge?
The personal touch. I love that Chris will meet me at the pool, Jordan Lake, go for a run or meet for a bike ride. Many coaches rely on Internet-based coaching which doesn’t work for me. I spend so much time on the computer for my job, so I coveted the human interaction in real life!
What are some of the lessons or concepts that stuck with you most?
Consistency is key. And you don’t have to work out 8 hours a day. 1 hour of working out hard is completely acceptable. I also learned how important having rest days built into my routine are to reaching my goals.
What would you like to accomplish next?
Xterras! Chris and I have big plans to hit the Xterra racing circuit which includes my first love, mountain biking. I also want to continue to work on my swim as I was totally terrified of the swim at first and now I totally love it!
