Sleep, Nutrition & Injury in Youth Athletes
Host, Head Coach and Performance Dietitian Chris Newport talks with her fellow performance dietitian Marisa Faibish in our latest podcast episode about sleep, nutrition, and injury risk in elite youth athletes.
The research article we discuss is called “Too little sleep and an unhealthy diet could increase the risk of sustaining a new injury in adolescent elite athletes” from the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports.
We discuss how sleep plays an essential role in recovery, memory, brain health, as well as our emotions and perception of exertion. We also relate the findings to our experience working with youth athletes and how nutrition ties into the risk for injury.
