Ryan Johnson
Coach Ryan Johnson believes that each athlete starts from a unique place, and when someone seeks support, it’s a deeply personal step that shows hope for change and a willingness to trust. Ryan excels at simplifying actions and mindsets for success by cutting through the overwhelming amount of information and misinformation out there. As a USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach with over five years of triathlon experience, he takes a confidence-building approach to goal setting. His background in counseling helps him connect with athletes, understand their needs, and identify barriers and opportunities for growth.
An age-group triathlete himself, Ryan has competed in Sprint, Olympic, and Half Ironman distance races. He lives in Apex, NC, and has worked as a school counselor in the public school system since 2005. He takes great pride in his wonderful wife, Kristen, and their two amazing daughters.
Ryan’s coaching philosophy is centered on making multisport accessible to everyone. Recognizing that the sport can feel overwhelming due to its complexity and expense, he enjoys working with athletes who don’t take themselves—or the noise surrounding the sport—too seriously. He helps athletes focus on their goals by cutting through distractions, ensuring that their efforts translate into performance gains. Beginner and intermediate triathletes who are open to learning and trusting the process find the most success with Ryan’s coaching approach.
